Talk of the week

7 06 2008

If you have browsed through Today’s Straits Times article, you should have come across this extract.

“Then: This particular concrete design, created in the 1970s, served generations of military men from the army bases around sleepy Old Choa Chu Kang Road. It was where young men bade lingering goodbyes to doting sweethearts and caught their last glimpse of civilian life before they booked into camp. ”

The highlighted extract has clearly reflected the feeling whenever I am booking into camp on Sunday nights.  In addition, the picture of the bus stop is taken near my camp. In view of this, flashes of memories of me booking in and out of camp keep popping out from my mind. Well, I guess this picture could remind me of all the experiences I have in camp in future (Hmm, I shall not dwell on all of the incidents in camp but shall only mention yesterday’s positive event).

Yesterday, my unit went out of camp for 10 km run at East Coast Park. At that juncture, I just constantly remind myself that I shall complete the 10 km run for the sake of early booking out. (since I am leaving in the east) At the 8 km mark, LTA(NS) Kwek joined me for the rest of the 2 km run. I was indeed surprised on why he came back to join us for the run. I was indeed elated to see his presence and completed the run  through constant interaction with him along the running route. Till date, I truly respected him for his dedication towards his work and the ability to interact closely with men and commanders. Thus, I must really thank him for making yesterday’s run an enjoyable one.
