Image of me

It has been a long time since I last update my blog. Thus, I have decided to try out something new today. That is, I would cast aside my normal style of writing a blog. In view of this, distribe would be a TABOO at least for this entry.

For the past few weeks, I guess I have begun to accept the hectic pace of life in university. Thus, I am resigned to fate that I have to endure endless amounts of assignments, readings to do per week. I have even resorted burning my weekend for studies and tuition. In short, time is indeed a scarce resource for me. Thus, I shall not deny that I am pursuing a mundane life for the pursuit of better working environment in the future. However, this does not mean that I did not encounter interesting events in school. In this entry, I shall recount the most thrilling experience here.

Basically, it happens in my English tutorial where I encountered an expressive female tutorial mate. In my opinion, it is perfectly fine to be expressive. In fact, I admire people who could elicit an argument in their attempt to strengthen their peers’ understanding of concepts. However, it would be a turn off for me when I have met tutorial mates who find means to smoke their concepts in order to earn participation marks. Thus, I do admit that the fact that I would be a devil in confronting such issues which is apparent in the case of the “expressive”  female tutorial mate. In short, she is a shrewd. From the first tutorial session, she has begun to suck up to my English Professor. Inevitably, I find such actions demeaning and odious. Thus. I have revealed my ultimate devil horn by making her being flummoxed by me. I shall not elaborate it here as I do not wish to be known as sadist. Best of all, my peers (my project mates for EL) did not realise my poly until I have told them. At that moment, I feel that I have done my part to “punish” her.

On another note, I must thank her “annoyance” actions as this was what gels my EL project mates up. We have managed to forge a closer bonds as we have a common goal. In fact, this was how I manage to break the ice using her as a focal point to converse with my project mates. Interestingly, one of them has been trying to put up with her since the first tutorial. Yet, she has to keep mum as she does not want to be perceived as being jealous.  Furthermore, our extent of hatredness to her is evident from the fact that one of our pencil cases  drops for consecutive tutorials immediately after she put on her “annoyance” actions. I guess her actions have indeed perturbed the gods. Thus, the gods have tried to use this means to justify our strong oppression to her.

On a critical note, I was pondering if the “annoying” woman was trying to apply her dominant strategy. Based on my previous silent “revenge”, I realise that she does not a good grasp of the module. In short, she is trying to use sucking up method to earn for marks in the area of  intangible assessment  such as participation points. At this juncture, I began to think if I should use the word bimbo to describe her? Well, I guess the phrase “empty vessel” is more apt in describing her. That brings to my point why I find her action very shrewd. Although she may defend in silence that this is her dominant strategy, I am sorry to tell her (if I have a chance to) that this is not a NASH equilibrium. Hmm, I guess this is a pun for those without Econs background. Thus, I shall not pursue my point further.

Oops, I seem to violate my initial statements in this entry. That is, this entry should not be a diatribe. In order to avoid breaking my promise further, I shall end off this entry with a lighter tone. That is, I am here to say that I begin to like linguistics despite the fact that I was thinking if I should drop the module during the start of the semester this year. In fact, my liking was built over the past few weeks and months was attributed to the fact that I have a dedicated professor who is teaching this module. Despite her maiden attempt in teaching this module, she has given her heart and soul in giving her best shot for each lecture. This includes the fact that she has put her words into action. She is willing to help those weaker students like me by answering our questions via email or even in forum. Although she could be idiosyncratic in her actions, she is able to infuse the passion of linguistics in us. In short, this is a well done job for her. This is compounded from the fact that she is able to debunk my strong oppression towards English since young despite me being an obstinate mule.  Thus, she was indeed feeling upset when she knew that it is her last tutorial with us.In fact, we could sense it when we saw her eyes (since upset is not a referent). Interestingly, I seem to see a reflection of me when I saw my prof’s expression. That is, she was in her tears when we present a card to her in our attempt to thank her for her dedicated teaching. At that moment, I began to recall those moments when I have in tears when my students have presented me a farewell card (though I have only taught them for 1 month) to acknowledge that I have given my heart and soul as well as my dedication. Although the role of me is being swapped this time round, I feel that this incident is a great testimony on my point that students do acknowledge educators who have given their utmost effort though students may appear to be nonchalant at times. In essence, this makes teaching fulfilling as such actions could NOT be expressed in monetary terms.

Most importantly, I hope that I have achieved my aim of not making this entry a diatribe. 🙂
